Hi, my name is Kim Winthrop, and one of my best clients gave me the nickname Kimber.
Working in the Permanent Makeup and Tattoo industry has been one of the greatest passions of my life. For the past ten years, I’ve had the privilege of helping people feel more confident, radiant, and beautiful in their own skin. There’s something so powerful about giving someone the ability to wake up and love the reflection they see in the mirror.
Every day, I get to do what I love — whether it’s restoring color to lips, perfecting a set of brows, or creating the illusion of thicker lashes with permanent eyeliner. But the procedures that touch my heart the most are under-eye concealer tattooing (also known as under-eye camouflage) and scar camouflage. These two treatments are deeply personal and incredibly transformative. They go far beyond beauty — they give people their confidence back.
Under-Eye Camouflage: A Life-Changing Procedure
Let’s start with under-eye camouflage. This specialized procedure helps neutralize dark under-eye circles and discoloration that traditional concealer often can’t cover. It’s not makeup — it’s a tattooing technique that uses custom-blended pigments to match your natural skin tone. The results are long-lasting and can make someone look refreshed, well-rested, and years younger.
There are only a handful of artists in the world who perform this procedure correctly and safely — and I’m proud to say I’m one of them. In fact, there are only about four of us worldwide who have truly mastered this delicate and advanced technique. Clients fly in and drive from all over the country to my studio in Naples, Florida, just to have it done.
I learned from the best — Rudolph Torres, a master artist based in South America who has perfected the art of under-eye camouflage. When I first took his course, I’ll be honest, I was both excited and nervous. The under-eye area is one of the most sensitive parts of the face, and achieving natural, seamless results requires precision, color expertise, and confidence.
My first model was a lovely woman who came in and asked if there was anything I could do about her dark circles. It felt like fate. I told her, “That’s amazing that you asked — I’ve been studying under-eye camouflage, and if you’d be open to being my model, I’d love to try this with you.” She was all in.

The results
were incredible. Her before-and-after photos still bring tears to my eyes because the transformation wasn’t just physical — it was emotional. She looked like herself again, only brighter and more confident.
The Power of Scar Camouflage
Scar camouflage holds a very special place in my heart as well. Whether it’s from surgery, trauma, burns, or pigmentation loss, scars often carry emotional weight. Many people come to me feeling self-conscious, hiding behind makeup or clothing. When they leave, they stand taller, smile wider, and finally feel free.

Here are some words from a few of my clients that have stayed with me over the years:
“You have literally changed my life. I’ve been putting makeup concealer on my white spots underneath my chin and throat for years, and it would always rub off on my clothes. Now, I don’t have to do that anymore. I can wake up, feel confident, and not worry about something that used to make me so self-conscious.”
Another client shared:
“The scars on my neck and face have made me uncomfortable for so many years. Finding you was a blessing. You’ve given me a kind of confidence I didn’t think I’d ever get back.”
And from a male client who drives trucks for a living:
“I know I drive a truck, but that doesn’t mean I’m tired all the time! People used to tell me constantly that I looked exhausted, and it really affected how I felt about myself. Since having this done, I look and feel so much better. It’s been life-changing.”
Under Eye Camouflage
These are the moments that remind me why I do what I do. It’s not just about skin tones and needles — it’s about transformation, healing, and confidence.

The Art and Science Behind It
Matching skin tones is no small task. Every individual’s complexion is unique, made up of undertones, overtones, and subtle shifts in color that change with lighting and time. Fortunately, I’ve been an artist my entire life, and color theory is second nature to me. For me, it’s like painting a masterpiece — blending pigments until they melt seamlessly into the skin.
Each session requires patience, attention to detail, and artistry. I mix pigments carefully, layer them gradually, and take my time to ensure the final result looks completely natural. When a client looks in the mirror after healing and says, “It looks like I was never scarred,” or “I finally look awake again,” that’s when I know I’ve done my job well.
Why I Love What I Do
After ten years in the permanent makeup world, I can honestly say there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone smile after a treatment. I’ve seen people cry tears of joy, hug me with gratitude, and leave the studio with a new sense of self-worth.
My mission at Wake Up To Makeup has always been simple — to help people wake up feeling beautiful and confident every day. Whether it’s through under-eye camouflage, scar revision, or permanent makeup artistry, I’m here to restore what life or circumstance may have taken away.
I truly believe beauty is not about perfection — it’s about confidence. When you feel confident in your skin, you shine from the inside out. And for me, being part of that journey for so many people is the greatest gift of all.
Every smile I see at the end of an appointment reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
Here’s to more smiling faces — one transformation at a time!
